The MBTI instrument has been embedded in the Society’s leadership development programme
Skipton Building Society is midway through a successful roll-out of leadership development using the MBTI instrument.
Head of Organisational Development Tim Spackman was looking for great individual leaders, rather than creating a ‘Skipton identikit’ set of leadership parameters. He chose the MBTI® instrument on the strength of its strong track record and the years of scientific research behind it.
Midway through the programme, employee engagement has risen significantly.
“There is now more understanding of different preferences”, says Tim. “Anecdotal evidence suggests that senior leaders have been changing their styles to get the best out of their teams, sometimes to dramatic effect.”
Skipton is now running a programme of ‘alumni’ events, in which those who have completed the programme come together quarterly to share learning sessions with each other – a great example of leaders helping to develop leaders.
Skipton is the UK’s fourth largest building society. It heads up the Skipton Group, with 14 subsidiaries in such areas as estate agency, financial services outsourcing, independent financial and related advisory businesses.
