National Church Institutions sing the praises of MBTI and TKI

There is an inherent tension in attempting to maximise income in an ethical environment.

This was one of the challenges facing the National Church Institutions (NCIs) of the Church of England.

Church of England logoAgainst a backdrop of falling church attendance and, consequently, a big drop in congregations’ donations, the seven diverse bodies constituting the NCIs needed to adopt a more entrepreneurial approach. This was no problem for the ‘worldly’ side of the business (lawyers and property managers, for example); but for clerics and academics, many with little prior experience of people management or business leadership issues, it would require a greater leap of faith.

To deal with these tricky issues the NCIs brought in OPP to run sessions dealing with such issues as conflict management, communication skills and team working, using the MBTI and TKI instruments. The programme allowed the disparate strands of the organisation to meet, interact and strive for mutual understanding, giving the NCIs a context in which to talk about organisational challenges without dodging any of the issues.

The work done so far has been a stepping stone. The challenges have not gone away, but the NCIs is now better equipped to engage with change and keep up the positive momentum. Find out more by reading our case study here.
